# Location History Map > A free Google location history viewer at https://location-history-map.skillsafe.ai/. Drop a > Google Timeline export and see it on a map with a time-weighted heatmap, routes coloured by travel > mode, the places where time was spent, trips away from home, distance by year and mode, countries > and cities, and a time slider. There is no AI model, no sign-in, no API and nothing metered: files > are parsed in the visitor's browser and never uploaded, and the basemap ships with the page so no > map tile server sees the locations. ## Inputs - Android on-device export: `Timeline.json` (Settings > Location > Location services > Timeline > Export Timeline data), with `semanticSegments` (visits, activities, timeline paths), `rawSignals` and `userLocationProfile` (home and work). - iPhone export from the Google Maps app: `location-history.json`, an array of segments whose positions are written as `geo:lat, lng`. - Older Google Takeout: `Records.json` (raw fixes with `latitudeE7`/`longitudeE7`, `timestamp` or `timestampMs`, accuracy and activity guesses) and the monthly `Semantic Location History` files (`placeVisit` and `activitySegment`). The whole Takeout `.zip` can be dropped; it is read in the page, including zip64 archives, and only location JSON inside it is parsed. - Several files or a folder at once are merged and de-duplicated. Files of any size are streamed in pieces inside a Web Worker rather than loaded whole. ## What it shows - Map: time-weighted heatmap (each fix counts for the minutes until the next one), routes coloured by walking, cycling, driving, transit, flights and boat, flights drawn as dashed arcs, places sized by time spent with home highlighted, optional raw points. Pan, wheel or pinch zoom, keyboard zoom. - Time slider with a per-day activity strip, year shortcuts and playback. - Distance by year, stacked by travel mode. From activity segments when present; otherwise estimated from fixes (jitter inside the accuracy radius ignored, mode guessed from speed, and marked as estimated). - Places you spent time: visits, total time, last visit, address and name when the export has them, otherwise the nearest city. Without visits in the export, stays of 15 minutes or more are found from the fixes. - Trips away from home: runs of days more than 80 km from that year's home (the place with the most hours between midnight and 5 a.m.), with the farthest city and countries. - Countries by days present and cities by time spent, from bundled Natural Earth boundaries and populated places. ## Exports Points CSV, visits CSV, GeoJSON (places and daily tracks), GPX track, a PNG of the map and a Markdown summary, all for the selected time range. ## Sources Basemap, country boundaries and city names: Natural Earth (public domain).
